The Policy and Procedures Manual ad hoc committee consists of Merri Rudd and Vice President Donna Bauer. There is also an ad hoc committee
regarding a possible camp project with Oddfellows in Santa Fe.
Board Member Jane Phillips requested that the Board approve printing a booklet of Megaband information, tune list, etc.; this was approved. Nancy
Ford will assist.
Secretary Trish Woodall moved that FolkMADS donate $500 to the Albuquerque Folk Festival, which was approved. FolkMADS members also will
donate their calling, playing, and sound-system talents. (Note: The contra dance that evening is at the State Fairgrounds, not Heights Community
Center; see calendar.)

FolkMADS Featured at Albuquerque Folk Festival June 16
There will be two opportunities on Saturday, June 16, to show our fellow New Mexicans just what FolkMADS is all about! This year the Albuquerque
Folk Festival will take place at the State Fairgrounds (lots of room and shady trees).
A contra workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 noon with the Albuquerque contra dancers. Bill "Doc" Litchman will call, and Bailiwick will play.
A contra dance, from 7:30 to 10 p.m., will feature Mimi Stewart calling and the Albuquerque Megaband playing.
Our own Bob and Nancy Ford are managing sound for the entire festival&emdash;an incredible undertaking. Bravo!
When you're satiated with contra, check out the other song, dance, acoustic music, and storytelling programs that are offered.
The festival runs 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, with activities both indoors and outdoors.
Participants can enter from the main Fairgrounds entrance off San Pedro Boulevard. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for youngsters 6 to 12 accompanied
by an adult, and free to children under 6.
For details, visit the website (www.abqfolkfest.org/) or contact Linda Starr in Albuquerque at 255-6037. Or see the flyer below for more details.

Megaband Tune of the Moment
by Bruce Thomson
David Margolin Tunes
David Margolin has been playing music for contra dances in New Mexico for 22* years, and has a phenomenal repertoire of tunes at the tip of his bow.
In recent years he's been writing some excellent tunes, and in fact recently played an entire dance with nothing but his compositions. Here are a couple
of his tunes that demonstrate his unique (and sometimes bizarre) creations. A word of caution&emdash;don't take these transcriptions too literally. If played as
written these tunes are as stiff as a board but we all know there's nothing stiff about either David's playing or his tunes. It's just not possible to use the
musical syntax developed by a bunch of dead white guys 500 years ago to capture the spirit and drive of modern old-time
(oxymoron?) fiddle music.
